Established by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) is one of the oldest (founded in 1950) research institutes of India.
The institute is located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India and it has two extensions, one is at Naroda (Gujarat) and the other is at Khurja (UP).
The main focus of the institute is the research in the various field of glass, ceramics and their related fields. The international relation is another huge priority of this research institute. In addition, the institute has huge industrial collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. in Science
- Minimum educational qualification: Master degree in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry / Inorganic Chemistry), Physics, Materials Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology
- 7 CGPA or equivalent marks in Master degree
- Candidates should have qualified in a national level fellowship like CSIR, UGC, INSPIRE, DST.
2. Eligibility for Sponsored Ph.D. in Science
- Minimum educational qualification: Master degree in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry / Inorganic Chemistry), Physics, Materials Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology
- 7 CGPA or equivalent marks in Master degree
- Candidates should have a valid endorsement letter for leave and financial support during the program from a sponsorship agency (Sponsorship Agency: Industry, Academic or Research Institutes)
3. Eligibility for Ph.D. in Engineering
- Minimum educational qualification: Master degree in Glass Technology, Ceramic Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Optoelectronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Biotechnology
- 7 CGPA or equivalent marks in Master degree
- Candidates should have qualified in NET or in other equivalent fellowship programs
4. Eligibility for Sponsored Ph.D. in Engineering
- Minimum educational qualification: Master degree in Glass Technology, Ceramic Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Optoelectronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Biotechnology
- 7 CGPA or equivalent marks in Master degree

5. Eligibility for the CSIR-CGCRI Project Fellows/Research Fellows Currently Working at CSIR-CGCRI
- At least 1-year work experience from CSIR-CGCRI
- Good academic record throughout the career (Minimum 60% in all levels)
- Candidates need to apply with full period valid fellowship through the proper channel approved by Director of the CGCRI
